The first method is risky. Do any BIOS updates under running operating system is dangerous. And you can't save the old BIOS into file before update. If you have a problem with your  Macintosh running  MAC OSX - check your system hard disk first. Unfortunately the native software can't cure it and crash sometimes.

So, best way is download it, install it on your computer, boot into single user mode by cmd-s  (OS X only) , then run:
# applejack auto
When it finished do:
# reboot
